Assured Care Newsletter

Summer 2021

Welcome

Summer is here and the sun has been shining! We want you to stay safe during the summer weather, so here are a few reminders. When it is hot, turn on a fan if you have one and drink plenty of cold drinks. If you are going outside apply sunscreen, try to wear a hat and loose cotton clothes, and stay in the shade as much as possible. If you can, try to avoid the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm.

Survey

Attached to this newsletter is the summary from the last questionnaire. The next survey is due to be sent out in August. We are currently amending the 6-monthly survey with some new questions. We encourage everyone to complete these when they get sent out. We read all of them and take on board all the feedback we get from them, so they really do make a difference to the service.

COVID-19 and easing restrictions

Although restrictions have been easing, we must continue to follow the recommendations. In order to keep all our Service Users and Staff safe, as a service we are continuing to work in the same manner as before: The team must continue to wash their hands and all touch points around your home; they will keep their distance where they can and continue to wear full PPE including facemasks as trained. If you have questions or concerns regarding safe covid practices, do get in touch. Please also be aware that case numbers are high within the city and that there are new symptom with the Delta variant. These include runny nose, headache and hay fever type symptoms, this is in addition to the previous list of symptoms which include a new or continuous cough, high temperature and loss of taste and smell. If you develop any of these symptoms, please let us know and follow the rules for isolation and testing. If you are unsure in any way, do not hesitate to contact the office.

The Assured Care Team

We have had a few new team members join us recently. Welcome to the team Tony, Lisa, Julie, Jane, Kora, Naomi and Alex! You may have met them already, they are all getting on really well, join us in making them feel welcome.

Some of you may be used to having the same carer for all your visits. We will be mixing team members up a little bit so you may see some new faces. In order to keep everyone safe and adhere to safe practices, it is important that we have a mixture of carers visiting our Service Users. We will limit this to only a few carers so continuity of care remains, but you will see more than one carer going forward.

There may be short notice changes to your visits. The expected carer and/or time may change due to other visits overrunning or sickness. We will endeavor to make you aware of these changes, however sometimes this is not always possible.

Due to GDPR we cannot always tell you why there is a change or a CSW can no longer visit you. We ask politely that you do not engage with the team in discussing other staff members as this can be quite damaging to the team members.

Cancellation/extra visit and change of visit Procedure

If you need to cancel a visit or make a change to a visit time for any reason, you must contact the office directly. Please do not ask the carers to make any changes themselves. A polite reminder that all visits cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice remain chargeable.

Reviews

Over the next few weeks will be booking in reviews with our Service Users. If you would prefer to do this via phone rather than a visit, or vice versa, please do get in touch with the office and let us know.

On Call/out of hours/ emergency services

Our normal office hours are 8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours Assured Care operates an emergency 24-hour messaging service.  These messages are checked regularly by the office member on-call. Anything that is not an emergency will be dealt with the following working day.

Pen-pal connections

We are aware that the past 18 months have been very hard and quite often lonely. Assured Care would like to set up pen-pal connections between any of our Service Users who are interested. If you would like to get involved, write a letter and we will send it on to another participant. When you receive your letter, send a reply. We hope some of you get involved and enjoy getting to know each other. We are happy to send a letter on for you if you cannot access a post box.

Respite

Assured Care is sister company to St Ronans Care Home on St Ronans Road. There are some beds available in the home for respite. If you are interested in this, or would like more information, please contact the office.

As a company, we are trying to be responsible and do our bit for the planet. We prefer to send communications via email. If you have an email, or a family member wishes to receive any communication on your behalf via email, please let us know. You can email us and we will update our records.
