Assured Care Summer update 2020

Hello, and welcome to our summer update. We hope you are all staying safe and well at this time. Our team are working hard to ensure everyone is safe, well and has what they need. As always, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us in the office, we are happy to help.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 and Infection Control

To reduce the risk we advise the following-

  • Practice good hand hygiene and wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds with warm soap and water, particularly before and after preparing food and using the bathroom. Soap and water is more effective than hand sanitiser. Use hand sanitiser if soap and water is not available, but you should wash your hands as soon as you are able to.
  • Limit unnecessary social contact wherever possible, follow government guidance on social distancing and stay 2 metres apart.
  • Care workers should be washing their hands on arrival to your property. If you live in building that has a communal bathroom, they have been instructed to wash their hands immediately in these facilities, before entering and leaving your property. You may also have noticed that staff are now wearing masks. This is inline with the current government guidance. If you see any staff not using gloves and an apron, not washing their hands regularly, or wearing a mask please inform the office.
  • If you have symptoms and/or are self-isolating, please inform the office straight away. This will help to keep yourselves and our staff safe. We continue to work closely with the local authority, NHS and HPE and will always follow their advice and guidance.

Email

Due to the frequency of government updates about Coronavirus/Covid-19, we need a point of contact email address for all services users/family members so we are able to circulate updated information as quickly and effectively as possible. We would be grateful if you could provide this as soon as possible. Please send us an email, our email address is at the end of this newsletter.  

Weather

We are currently experiencing high temperatures and lots of sunshine. Open your windows to let some fresh air in if you can. Ensure you are not wearing too many layers and drink plenty of fluids. If you do have to go outside, make sure you wear sun cream and try to avoid the hottest part of the day between 11am and 15pm. Staff will be asking you to drink plenty when they are visiting you, please don’t be afraid to ask them to make you more drinks if you need them. As always, we keep up to date with weather warnings from the Met Office. All our care workers are informed when a weather warning has been issued so that they can update our services users as necessary.  If you have any concerns regarding weather warnings or staying well in the heat, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Medication

If Assured Care supports you with your medication, the office must be informed on any changes immediately so that our records are kept up to date. These will be added in real time to the oncare app so there is no delay in the changes to medication and our carers can prompt medication safely in-line with our policies and procedures. Failure to notify the office of any changes may result in carers not being able to prompt/administer any new medication.

Raffles and Bingo

Lee-Anne has recently helped a raffle and Video call Bingo night for staff and Service Users. These both went down very well. Enough raffle prizes were donated so that everyone taking part won a prize. Another raffle is in progress with prizes of a bottle of flavoured gin and tonic, 6 non-alcoholic beers, and a case of 24 soft drinks. A strip of 5 tickets is £1.50.Lee-Anne is hoping to do another video call Bingo night or video call quiz. If are interested in raffle tickets, or taking part in Bingo or a quiz, please get in touch. If you have any suggestions for socially distant fun let us know.

Facebook

We have set up a facebook group called Assured Care Friends and Family which will be a safe space for everyone who’s part of the Assured Care family – staff, family, close friends to keep in touch, post pictures and updates etc. If you’re not already a member search ‘Assured Care Friends’ on facebook, click request to join, and we will add you – we’d love to have you with us. If you’re not on facebook but would like to be part of the group – please get in touch with the office who can help set you up.  

We really hope you’ll all be happy to join this and have fun with it.

Observations

As part of Assured Care’s ongoing training and support to ensure we deliver consistently safe services of a high quality, we are required to carry out regular observations of all our care staff. Rochelle from the office will be carrying out socially distant observations of Assured Care staff during their visits. We appreciate your continued support, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact the Assured Care office.

We welcome your feedback and/or suggestions. We want to continue to improve our service and we need you let us know what you think. Any compliments we receive, no matter how small you think they are, are displayed in our office for the team to see, which they really appreciate. We take everything you say into consideration, so if there is anything you think we can improve in any area of our service, please let us know. Our contact details are at the end of the newsletter.

Cancellation Procedure

If you need to cancel a call for any reason, you must inform the office as soon as possible. Please be aware that if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, the call will still be chargeable to whoever pays for your care.

On-Call Service

Our normal office hours are 8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours Assured Care operates an emergency 24-hour messaging service.  These messages are checked regularly by the office member on-call. Anything that is not an emergency will be dealt with the following working day.

Relatives and Friends Support

Did you know there is a Carers Centre in Portsmouth that offers support to relatives and friends who care for someone. You can call them to find out more information on: 023 9285 1864

Portsmouth Carers Centre, 117 Orchard Road, Southsea, PO4 0AD.

They are open 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4:30pm every Friday.
