Assured Care Newsletter Autumn 2019

Welcome to our Newsletter for Autumn 2019.

News - We recently had our CQC inspection. Our Team has been working extremely hard, as always and we were awarded ‘GOOD’ in all areas so well done to everyone. If you would like to read the full report, you can do so here:

Weather – Autumn is here and the weather will be getting cooler and wetter. Ensure you are starting to keep your homes warm and turn on the heating when needed. Remember to have some blankets, warm drinks and a hot water bottle to hand to keep you warm, and remember to start keeping windows closed as the air gets cooler, and don’t forget to turn the lights on as the evenings get darker. As always, we keep up to date with weather warnings from the Met Office. All our Care Workers are informed when a weather warning has been issued so that they can update our Services Users as necessary.  If you have any concerns regarding weather warnings or keeping warm, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Email – Email is our preferred method of communication as its more efficient and reduces the chances of miscommunication. If you have an email address, we would be grateful if you could provide it for our records. Our email address is at the end of this newsletter.

Survey – It is time to send out the 6 monthly survey again. These surveys are your chance to let us know what we are doing well, and what we can improve on. Once we receive them all back, we will collate the data and send all Service Users a copy of the results. This will include any actions we will be taking based on your feedback. You will receive a copy of the survey from your Key Worker. Once completed, pop it into the brown envelope provided and your Key Worker will be more than happy to bring it back to the office for you. Your Key Worker can assist you with completing it if you wish. If you are unsure as to who your Key Worker is, then you can contact the office, who will be happy to tell you which Care Worker it is.

Sponsored Walk – Some of our staff have been collecting sponsorship for a walk they will be doing from St Ronans Care Home to QA hospital and back. The proceeds from the walk will be used to put on a group activity for our Services Users. When we have finalised the details, we will let you all know what, where and when it will be. Any suggestions are welcome.

Christmas Holiday Bookings – It may seem early, but in November we will be sending out Christmas request forms. This so you can notify us if you would like us to provide care during the Christmas holidays or if there are times you will not be requiring our services.  Please send it back to us in good time to ensure that all your calls are adequately covered.

The Assured Care Team – We have sadly said goodbye to Lorraine in the last few months. She had been with the company for over 30 years and will be greatly missed. We all thank her for her long and dedicated service and wish her well. We will also be saying goodbye to our Coordinator Charlie this month. We wish her well in her future endeavours. Rochelle will be re-joining us a Coordinator, please join us in welcoming her back to the team.

OnCare App – As you may be aware, our Care Workers have started to use the OnCare App on their mobile phones to log information about care calls as well as the red log books. All Service Users and their relatives are able to read the red folders in the properties, but did you know you can also access the OnCare App, so you can see the care that is being delivered immediately after the information is uploaded. OnCare is free, secure and very easy to set up. Currently, OnCare only allows one relative or friend to have access. If you would like would like more information or to set this up, please feel free to telephone or email the office. 

Brexit – As you are aware, we may leave the EU on 31.10.2019. We have put a contingency plan in place to ensure there is no, or minimal disruption to the services you receive. The government has put measures in place to ensure you continue to receive all medication as usual, people are advised not to stockpile. Everything else should continue as normal, albeit you may have to wait longer for deliveries, see some prices increase slightly or less choice of produce in the supermarkets. You are advised to consider having a few extra tinned or dried in your cupboards. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our plan, please give us a call. 

On-Call Service - Our normal office hours are 8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours Assured Care operates an emergency 24-hour messaging service.  These messages are checked regularly by the office member on-call. Anything that is not an emergency will be dealt with the following working day.

Infection Control – Flu season is upon us. Remember to get your flu jab if you are entitled, to help reduce your risk this winter. Please be aware that there is currently a Norovirus outbreak in the area. It is not currently affecting any of our staff or Service Users, but it is important to be mindful and practice good hand hygiene to lower your risk. We take infection control very seriously, and all staff have had comprehensive training. If you notice a Care Worker not wearing gloves or an apron, please ask them to put these on. If you have an infection yourself or any queries regarding an infection of somebody else, please let the office know. We are happy to help.

Relatives and Friends Support – Did you know there is a Carers Centre in Portsmouth that offers support to relatives and friends who care for someone. You can drop in for a cup of tea whenever they are open, and they are happy to chat and help you find any appropriate support that may be available. You can call them to find out more information on: 023 9285 1864 or visit them at Portsmouth Carers Centre, 117 Orchard Road, Southsea, PO4 0AD. They are open 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4:30pm every Friday, with a Saturday Café on the first Saturday on the month from 10am-2pm.
