Happy New Year to you all.

Welcome to our Winter Newsletter for 2017. We all hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We look forward to continuing to provide you with all the support you need throughout 2017. 

Winter is Here

Please remember to stay warm in the colder temperatures. During the cold spells, have your heating on if you can, and have plenty of blankets. Have warm drinks and a hot water bottle if you need it. If you have to go out, make sure you wrap up and dress in weather appropriate attire. Please keep up-to-date with weather reports via TV and radio. The office always has a copy of the most recent weather warning.

Care Support Workers

Our team has recently been joined by two new members of care staff. You may have already met Amy from her previous role last year as a Co-ordinator. She has joined our team as a Senior Support Worker. We have also been joined by Care Support Worker Rochelle. We will have a further four new care support workers starting in late January. Please offer them a warm welcome.

We have recently said goodbye to Kay and Rebecca. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Long Service Awards

In December, Assured Care honoured some of our long standing carers with long service awards. Please join us in congratulating the following Carers: Lorraine Abel for 30 years service, David Abel and Barbara Ingram for 15 years Service, June Ormiston and Liz Sadler for 10 years Service, and Caroline Perry, Souad Aziz and Janet Cuff for 5 years service.

CQC Inspection

We have recently completed a CQC Inspection. We received ‘Good’ in all aspects of the report. Assured Care was deemed safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Attached to this newsletter is the summary report for you to read. This also gained a mention in The Portsmouth News.

6 Monthly Questionnaire Analysis

Thank you to all Service Users who have taken the time to fill out and return your 6 monthly questionnaires. We really value the feedback. These have been summarised and the results are attached with this newsletter. Please remember you do not have to wait for these questionnaires to raise any queries. Details of how to get in touch are at the end of this newsletter.

Call Times

We would to take this opportunity to remind all service users that the times specified on bookings list are an estimated time only. The actual call time could be up to 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after the time stated on the bookings list. This complies with standards as set by Portsmouth City Council.

Infection Control and NOROVIRUS

It is that time of year when infections including Norovirus are out in force. If you notice a carer not wearing gloves or an apron, please feel free to ask them to put these on as they should be wearing them. Also, contact the office and report anyone not wearing their gloves and aprons.

 If you have an infection yourself or any queries regarding an infection of somebody else; please feel free to call the office. We are happy to help.

Gift, Gratuities and Bequests, and Medication Policies

Recently we have updated our policy of receiving gifts, gratuities and bequests in accordance with Portsmouth City Council. Staff are not allowed to accept personal gifts of any kind no matter how small. Under no circumstances will money be accepted by any member of staff as a gift. If you would like to show your gratitude, a box of chocolates or biscuits that can be brought into the office and shared out amongst all staff, this is acceptable.

Our medication policy has also been updated to include the disposal of medication, staff training in this matter is on-going.

The Service User Guide which can be found in your red log books has been updated.  Staff are currently in the process of delivering these to your red log books. If you have not received one yet, please contact the office.

Emergency Numbers

If you feel unwell, remember you can always call 111 if your doctor is unavailable. Or in the event of serious illness or injury call 999.

Relatives and Friends Support Group

You are all welcome to join our Relative and Friends Support Group that is run by Trixie at our sister company St Ronans Care Home. The group meets about every 3 months. If you would like to talk to Trixie you can contact her on either:  023 9275 2910 or 023 9273 3359.
